Do you work in a potentially explosive atmosphere? Then you must
have the necessary knowledge and skills regarding explosion
hazards, risks, and safety measures. You will acquire this
knowledge by following the training ATEX Basic Principles (Ex
001)—a comprehensive explosion safety course. This training is
designed for people working in an explosive environment who do not
perform technical tasks that directly create an explosion
risk. This training is fully online, allowing you to start and
study whenever you wish.

Legislation and regulations•
Properties of flammable gases and substances•
Zoning•
Equipment marking•
Safe working practices (work permits, use of gas detectors,
etc.)•
Principles and operation of protection methods for electrical and
mechanical equipment•

After completing this online course, you meet the legal
requirements of the Dutch Working Conditions Act and ATEX 153
(formerly ATEX 137).
You also comply with the international learning outcomes and
assessment criteria of IECEx 05 Unit Ex 001.
The ATEX courses include all relevant national, European (ATEX),
and international (IEC) standards and regulations.
Certificate of Completion
After completing the ATEX Basic Principles course, you will receive
the certificate “ATEX Basic Principles e learning (EX
001)”. If you choose to take the official IECEx exam
afterwards and pass, you will receive the qualification:
IECEx 05 – Unit of Competence – Apply basic principles of
protection in explosive atmospheres.
Would you like to work internationally as well? Then you will
need a personal certificate that meets the IECEx 05 personnel
certification scheme.
You can apply for this certificate via PBNA. For your
application, you need the relevant IECEx certificate and an
evidence file, containing documentation from your employer that
records your work experience.
